The LOS applies advanced optical measurements to the characterization of matter, light and light-matter interactions for fundamental and applied research.
Optical phenomena are used to study matter in both gas and solid phases, with target topics related to the study of atmospheric pollutants, surface/interface/nanostructured material properties, biological and bio-inspired systems and biosensor devices.
